I Am a Sucker for This Stuff

I showed this to Amber and she got a chuckle out of it, too.

Reading!

During the day it was the girls and I while Allen was at school. They played dress up and we had fun playing with little dolls. Allen, Ashton, Abby, and I were a team tonight for bedtime. We had some fun playing ball and kicking a soccer around. Things were fun. Allen is getting very good at reading and he enjoys it quite a bit. We saw a few hard words and Allen told me that he has trouble with "imaginary" words.

Tonight the kids also asked me to play some Guitar Hero. The girls pull out some Playskool musical instruments and we jam. Allen loves watching it and gets into it. It was a great time. It is like we play Rock Band because two of us play guitar and someone always plays drums. I love it!

Uphill Battle

Allen has been pretty sick for the last couple of days. You pair that fact with Ashton needing antibiotics and you get some more days of school missed. I remember being a kid and trying to trick my mom into thinking I was sick at least twice (and it worked) but not missing much school overall.

I had planned to submit my resume to a local company today and instead of taking just Abby, I ended up taking all three kids. It wasn't that big of a deal, it was just a little harder to get out the door.

Allen is reading very well these days. I have been playing a game called Professor Layton and the Curious Village and it is basically a story that wraps around about 180 different logic and math puzzles you could see on an SAT test. Some are just tricky while others are truly challenging to solve. He was interested and we played the game together today. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys actual brain teasers. It is a really fun and well put together game. It is possible that the two sequels that are already out in Japan may be released here. Check out this video from the game.

Ballet

Tonight after dinner the girls put on a ballet recital complete with outfits and the proper shoes. They sang "Mary Had a Little Lamb" which ordinarily Abby sings as "Little Had a Little Lamb."

For whatever reason, there was a small cup with wet feathers in it waiting for me on the table tonight which lead to the explanation of how birds can carry disease and parasites. Somehow I don't think the kids really understood but I understood they were mad at me for throwing away the wet feather pile.

I Am Batman

I didn't get to witness this with my own eyes but the story made me laugh anyway: Abby decided that drawing on her own face with a dark blue marker would make her look like Batman. She prepared her face and then walked up to Amber and whispered sternly that she was Batman! If a photo exists I intend on posting it here later.

Bummer

My computer is malfunctioning. It is getting to be rather difficult to get online. I hope this gets resolved soon.

Barbie Mariposa Brings the Family Together

Because Ashton had such a good week I brought home the new Barbie DVD. It doesn't hurt that Abby loves those movies too and the two of them will often be able to sing songs from the movies. We cuddled up and had a family movie night. There is less and less space on the couch for me so I often make a cuddle nest on the floor next to the couch. I guess it looks really inviting because everyone except Amber ended up in it. I must admit it was a very cozy place to watch the movie from.

I am Sick

And how. I have a pretty nasty cold that has been rampant at my work. I wish this upon no one.

This past week has been filled with some fun moments with the kids. I have spent lots of time with Abby and she has been wanting to wear ballerina costumes and pajamas pretty much all day long. I never thought that "day clothes" would be dirty words but she cries at the mention of them sometimes.

Ashton has been growing up quite a bit. She has really figured out the bathroom part of life and was able to turn the light on when the house was dark because she really needed to go. A problem had been that if the shower curtain were not completely drawn or if it was dark she would be too scared to go by herself. I like that this is changing.

Allen had a friend of his call tonight and schedule some plans. Hopefully they will be able to work something out for tomorrow because I know he is excited. He recently got a copy of Pokemon Pearl and has been drawing his own character ideas up. I like how inventive he is. I remember doing that sort of thing when I was a kid, too.
