What a Busy Couple of Days

Amber and I agreed that we should make a few improvements to the house. Amber started the enormous undertaking of painting the girls room and I lent a little bit of help. I am impressed that she got it to look good and the speed that she did the work in. Unfortunately, that one day made other chores stack up and today we tried to catch up on them.

Also, I have a wicked sun burn on the top of my giant head. I can not describe what it feels like. I already know that my scalp is going to peel and look really awful. Ugh. I was sitting on the couch with Ashton and she gently touched my head and then carefully examined me. After a moment she said: "Daddy, your head is very hot. You are bright red and wrinkled." She then touched under my chin and decided, "You are getting really old." I love my kids.

I am Sick Again

I can't really say that I recall being sick like this. Do I have bronchitis? Perhaps a sinus infection? I hope I don't have to head to the doctor to find out. Hopefully this won't make for a terrible weekend.

The Park Visit

The event of the day was going to the park. I promised Ashton that we would go just before visiting Grandpa. We went to the park that was just across the street from his house. I called ahead to make sure Dad was still expecting us and I ended up finding out that Karin was helping with Hannah's class that was also going to be at the park. It was a fun little excursion. After, we went to Grandpas and had a fun little time.

Side note: I started a Twitter account and have embedded the feed here. I expect in the short run that I will end up Twittering from my phone. Nerd!

Tiring Weekend

I am exhausted. I had a couple of meetings and worked quite a bit. It has been busy.

I got home and everyone was ready to have fun. Amber tried to be in a bad mood but we wouldn't let her. We had lots of laughs together.

Allen read a fifth grade level book to us and Ashton had us read the story I helped her write (but she illustrated). Abby and I had a tickle fight and I think she won.

Day Off

I spent the day with all three kids. Ashton was sick at school yesterday and so Amber decided that she should stay home. Allen ended up playing a bit of hooky. We took a brief road trip to take care of some business but most of the day was at home.

Sunday was Mother's Day and the kids gave Amber some neat hand made art from school. I gave her some flowers that were called Orange Star and they looked pretty cool. The typical mom, Amber noticed in a few seconds that the plant was poisonous for pets and children.

Yesterday at reading time I got a little silly and began to sing some of Dr. Suess' poems. Ashton protested saying that girls sing and boys that are rock stars sing and that I should stop. I thought that was pretty funny.

Let the Story Begin

Allen and I began the story tonight. He was very excited and we spent some quality time at the computer trying to work together. I shared with him my techniques for creating and then improving a story and he and I had much fun.

Amber is out of town and so I am in charge. Ashton had a school field trip for the Zoo tomorrow but it just isn't going to be possible. She was sad but I told her that during the summer we would have many more chances to do fun things. I asked her what she wanted to do and she told me she really wanted to go to the beach.

Abby is very cute. Tonight she saw me trying to console Ashton and kept trying to work her way into cuddling with me. She tried getting in my lap and then settled with leaning against my arm and snuggling up.

Let's Write a Story

Allen read a story to us that was about a Native American legend of wild horses. The art was really great and the story was written well. He announced that he wants to write a book. There's quite a bit of inspiration that kids can bring adults. They have a pure view of the world and do not see obstacles. I really think we could work together and make something really worthwhile.

On an unrelated note, I have been listening to Bon Iver lately and think they are worth a look. I had heard of them before SXSW this last year but they got more attention after.
